Digital Learning Reflection

The end of the semester is rapidly approaching, and with it comes the conclusion of the Digital Learning course. Personally, I must admit that I didn’t find the subject to be particularly engaging. While I understand the importance of digital literacy, working with AI and technology is something I’ve already been doing extensively on my own. As a result, having a whole course dedicated to these topics felt somewhat redundant. However, I do want to acknowledge that there were aspects of the class I appreciated, particularly the enthusiasm and dedication of our instructor, Mr. Pizarro.

Mr. Pizarro’s approach to the subject was genuinely commendable. He was aware that the topic of digital learning, while important, may not always be thrilling. Despite this, he put a lot of effort into making every class engaging. His use of activities, discussions, and thought-provoking questions made the content more interesting, and often pushed me to reflect on how I can incorporate digital tools more effectively into my own teaching practices. His passion for the subject matter helped keep the class dynamic, even when the content itself felt repetitive or overwhelming.

One of the most memorable experiences during the course was the online internship with Jesse, a teacher from the United States. This internship was an exciting opportunity to learn about the practical applications of technology in education. Jesse introduced us to various tools for teaching with technology, which I found incredibly useful. In today’s world, where technology is an integral part of education, understanding how to incorporate it into the classroom is crucial. Jesse’s insights and tips on using these tools effectively provided us with valuable knowledge that will undoubtedly be beneficial as we begin our careers as English teachers.

Despite my initial reservations about the course, the biggest takeaway for me is a clearer understanding of how technology and AI should be seen not as shortcuts or replacements for hard work, but as tools to support and enhance the learning process. Technology has vast potential, and when used correctly, it can help us not only complete tasks more efficiently but also deepen our understanding of the material. This lesson has reshaped my perspective on digital learning, reminding me that the goal is not to let technology do the work for us, but to use it as a resource that enables us to grow and develop as educators.

In conclusion, while I may not have enjoyed every aspect of the Digital Learning course, I am grateful for the opportunity to explore the various ways technology can be integrated into teaching. The knowledge gained will certainly be beneficial in my future career as an English teacher, where I’ll be able to use digital tools to enhance both my students’ learning experiences and my own professional development.

Game Creation!

In this game, you need two dices, and four players or four teams. They will need to answer correctly in order to move forward and reach the finish line.

It’s based on Snakes and Ladders

Second Session of the International Faculty

Learning to use Co-Pilot as a teaching tool was an eye-opening experience for me. At first, I was hesitant, unsure how AI could genuinely enhance my classroom experience. The idea of relying on technology felt daunting, and I worried it might complicate my teaching rather than simplify it. However, as I began to explore its features, I quickly discovered its potential to transform my approach to education.

I started by experimenting with lesson planning, initially using it to generate ideas for activities and discussion topics. The instant suggestions helped me refine my concepts in ways I hadn’t anticipated, sparking my creativity and making the planning process feel less overwhelming. I found myself more excited about my lessons as I saw how Co-Pilot could help me craft engaging, interactive content tailored to my students’ needs.

As I became more comfortable with the tool, I began to ask it for help with a wider range of tasks, from generating quiz questions to suggesting multimedia resources. Each interaction built my confidence, and I appreciated how it could quickly provide alternatives or clarify complex ideas, which was invaluable during those moments when I felt stuck.

Voice Dubbing

Hello!

First Session of the International Faculty Internship ˚ ༘ ೀ⋆。˚

The internship we had the opportunity to attend both last monday and the next one was full of different tools and activities. Ms. Jesse Gleason made sure we made the most of the time we had. The first thing I remember was being separated into break rooms of an estimate of 8 people each.

There we had to play a Bingo game to get to know each other, since the meeting had students from the 3 campuses that have the English Pedagogy program: Viña del Mar (The best), Concepción and Santiago. There were many questions, like “Do you love sports?” or “Do you love fruits?” for example, which we had to answer and mark on the bingo card.

Then we had to name our groups, for which I suggested the name “Los Robux”, as a reference to one of my favorite games “Roblox”, which one of the girls in the break room also plays. I exchanged Instagram users with the girl and we now follow each other on social media, she seems really nice! and she was also really funny.

Later, we started using some tools, like “Khanmingo” and “Mizou”, which are tools we can use to enrich or even create material for our classes and acquire information directly through the use of artificial intelligence. They were very useful, for example, Mizou was an AI which allowed you to “talk” to historical or famous figures and ask them questions about them in order to obtain information.

Lastly, I remember being separated into the same break rooms again, to organize a list of things AI can and can’t do collaboratively in a Jamboard, and then we all checked the activity together. At first, I thought we had to create the prompts, so I was a bit clueless about what to do, until the group started working on it, and we decided on which was which.

I think it was a great instance, a great opportunity to learn and I’m eager to see what we do in the workshop next Monday.

Here’s the link of the doc.

I made it so that students can work more easily on their speech.

I also have a Canva presentation as an example of the one students must do.

That’s an overview of the presentation

⋆。‧˚ʚ Voice Dubbing N°2 – Lotso’s Past!🧸💖🍓ɞ˚‧。⋆

Here’s my voice dubbing for this week!

I chose a scene from Toy Story 3

This is the original clip:

The video isn’t availabe for reproduction in here, but you can watch it on YouTube.

This is my version! (click on the image to watch it!)

Script:

  • Chuckles: [narrating] I was there when Lotso got unwrapped. Daisy loved us all. But Lotso, Lotso was special. They did everything together. You’ve never seen a kid and a toy more in love.
  • [We see Daisy doing several things with Lotso, including sleeping with him in bed. We then view Daisy, her toys and her family having an outing together]
  • Chuckles: [narrating] One day, we took a drive. Hit a rest stop. Had a little playtime. After lunch, Daisy fell asleep.
  • [Daisy’s parents carry her to the car. They drive off leaving Lotso, Big Baby and Chuckles alone in the field]
  • Chuckles: [narrating] She never came back. Lotso wouldn’t give up. It took forever, but we finally made it back to Daisy’s.
  • [We view Chuckles, Big Baby and Lotso finally reaching the house. Lotso and Chuckles climb to the window and smile at Daisy, who’s reading a book. She puts it down, and to Lotso’s horror, he sees that he’s been replaced by another Lotso toy.]
  • Chuckles: [narrating] But by then, it was too late.
  • [He looks down sadly and so does Chuckles. Lotso climbs down and starts to walk away but then his sadness turns to anger.]
  • Chuckles: [narrating] Something changed that day inside Lotso. Something snapped.
  • Lotso: She replaced us! Come on!
  • Chuckles: No, she only replaced you!
  • Lotso: She replaced ALL of us! Didn’t she?!
  • [Big Baby starts to climb up to the window but Lotso stops him, grabs his pendant with Daisy’s name on it, throws it on the ground and yanks him away]
  • Lotso: She don’t love you no more! Now come on!
  • Big Baby: (crying)
  • [Chuckles watches after them in sadness. Later, the three toys are sat on the back bumper of a Pizza Planet truck as it speeds alone]
  • Chuckles: [narrating] We were lost. Cast off. Unloved. Unwanted.
  • [The truck suddenly hits a bump sending Lotso, Big Baby and Chuckles flying off the bumper and onto the ground]
  • Chuckles: [narrating] Until we found Sunnyside. But Lotso wasn’t my friend anymore.
  • [They look over at Sunnyside in the distance, illuminated by lightning so they can see it more clearly. Lotso gets up and walks angrily toward it as Big Baby and Chuckles look with sadness. The flashback ends]
  • Chuckles: He wasn’t anybody’s friend.

ᯓ★Locating Digital Content

For this, I chose an activity we did in Speaking, which consisted in choosing a movie, and speaking of the important parts of it, such as actors, plot, characters, setting and premiere date for 2 minutes, while 3 classmates assessed you with a rubric.

I know Mr. James HATES this, but I think a Kahoot could be a good idea to ensure students payed attention to their classmates.
My activity would be the same, except with a Quiz with two questions per movie. Students like the competitive aspect of it, it kind of forces the ones not assessing to pay attention in order to be able to answer, and it’s very practical!

Another thing that can be done, is having a PPT or images to help us remember pivotal points we need to explain. I think an important part of speaking presentations is to have resources, because you can speak very well, but sometimes you can get confused with what you want to say and lose the order. For this, I think Canva or Genially are great tools.
